Welcome
What is the International EMS Competition (IEMSC)?
The IEMSC is modeled after a similar Polish competition that has been offered in various regions of Poland for the past 6 years. The event combines emergency scenarios with the added feature of an ambulance road rally. There are normally 5 scenarios, with one of them occurring at night. Judges are stationed at each scenario and score the actions of the rescue teams, based on strict objective criteria. Points are awarded or subtracted, for each team, based on the appropriateness, timeliness, safety and quality of the team’s response to each scenario. An added feature of the competition is the road rally component.
What’s involved in the Ambulance Road Rally?
The Ambulance Road Rally consists of a printed set of turn by turn directions that prompt the rescue team to their final destination – the next scenario. No actual street names are used. Scoring is based on ending mileage and time it takes to get to the next scenario. The public is invited to observe the activities at each scenario. The scenarios will be located in and around Utica, New York and Oneida County.
The Competition will begin with a “kick off” ceremony and buffet at the Polish Community Club at 810 Columbia Street in Utica, New York. We are limiting the number of participants to 25 teams of three rescue personnel each. These Rescue Teams will start that evening to their first scenario. Each team will be alcohol tested prior to departure to insure safety and professionalism.
The next morning each team will get new packets with directions, as they proceed with the road rally and 4 additional scenarios. These scenarios will include cardiac, trauma, pediatric and mass casualty problems which the rescue teams must evaluate and treat. There will be volunteer “patients” moulaged, or made up, to look like and act like real patients. There will also be mannekins for actual physical contact for procedures such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation involving chest compressions and intubation.
The event will end by later afternoon of the second day. Judges will tally the scores. The winners of the Competition will be awarded a trophy and all expenses paid travel to Poland to compete in the September, 2008 International Ambulance Competition in Poland. The other participants will also receive awards for their participation in the Competition.
What is EMS Global Inc?
EMS Global is a 501c3 non-profit organization founded 15 years ago by Dr. Richard Chmielewski D.O., a professional emergency physician from Utica, New York. He presently is the co-CEO, along with Critical Care Specialist Dr. Michael Czekajlo, the Virginia Commonwealth University of Richmond, Virginia.
Over the intervening years, EMS Global has focused its energy towards the improvement of the Emergency Medical System in Poland.
Our Successes
The mission of EMS Global is to assist globally in the modernization of the delivery of emergency medical care. Over the past 10 years EMS Global Inc has spent a considerable amount of time and effort in the improvement of Emergency Medicine in Poland.
During the past 10 years EMS Global Inc donated emergency medical equipment, provided disaster relief after two major floods in Poland, developed a physician and a paramedic exchange program and provided lectures and seminars in Poland. We donated emergency medical books and educational courses on CD, ambulances and even a cardiac catheterization laboratory. In the last few years our focus has moved more toward education. We believe that providing knowledge and skills to those involved in EMS, Emergency Medicine and Emergency Management will empower Polish emergency health care providers and allow them to improve their emergency medical system and decrease morbidity and mortality.
Our most recent projects include the opening of 8 American Heart Association training centers. With our AHA certified Polish colleagues, we have trained thousands of providers and instructors in emergency medical care and trauma and cardiopulmonary resuscitation care, to continue the mission of EMS GLOBAL INC.
Where We Are Going
